What is Colour Analysis?
I’m sure you have all seen the social media trend around Colour Analysis – finding the perfect colours that help you glow even WITHOUT make up. This is one trend I am behind, because it truly works!
Many studies have been conducted as to how different colours affect us. Beyond just the personal radiance achieved by wearing the right shade, colours also play a significant role in shaping our mood and perception when they surround us.
My Story
Let me share my story: I’ve always had a deep love for neutral colours – think brown, camel, khaki, and beige. Despite being drawn to these colours repeatedly, I couldn’t quite pinpoint why they didn’t have the same effect on me as they did on others. Fast forward to my own colour analysis, and here comes the revelation – those autumnal shades I was so fond of weren’t the right match; I was a Winter. Now, with the correct Winter neutrals, I feel and look my best.
I have witnessed the same discovery with many of my clients who, once knowing their WOW colours, felt an immediate sense of confidence. The beauty really lies in the instant impact of colour, even without the added touch of styling!
Seasonal Colour Analysis
I analyse with 4 seasonal draping method, to keep things simple but effective! For warmer toned individuals we can see the radiance of the warmer toned seasons (Spring & Autumn), whilst cooler toned individuals shine best with the cooler toned seasons (Summer & Winter). So lets run through the seasons:
Spring
When we envision Spring, imagine warm, bright and clear colours that reflect season’s blossoming flower. It’s the vivid green stems topped with delicate tulips or the rays of azaleas. Springs can be draped in a palette of warm greens, orangey reds, very peachy pinks to the brightest daffodil yellow.
Summer
When picturing Summers Seasonal palette, imagine softness and delicacy with cool tones. Just as you would set off to the seaside around this season, with powder blue seas and the gentlest shades of pink – those colours perfectly reflect those of the Summer family. So pastels and soft neutrals is an excellent choice, as these colours inherently contain plenty of white.
Autumn
Autumn’s colour palette is a captivating blend of warmth, richness, and muted tones. Imagine the enchanting hues of autumnal leaves, showcasing mesmerising golds, reds, oranges and brown. But these earthy tones aren’t just where Autumns truly shine; you can also find them mirroring the deepest sea blues to the softest of apricots.
Winter
Winter’s colour pallet embodies cool, vibrant but strong colours, mirroring the darker essence of the season. Think deep night skies, the bold red of holly berries and that winter white snow. For those Winter Season individuals, you can also look for rich jewel tones like ruby reds, sapphire blues, and emerald greens. And yes, the rumour is true, Winter is the only season with the colour Black in its palette but don’t let that deter you, wear the colours you feel best in or better yet wear your best colours closest to your face.
Keep in mind, there is no colour you can not wear – each season has their own ideal shade tailored to complement your skin tone.
Wearing the right colours vs the wrong colours
When your WOW Colours are discovered, there are endless benefits, leaving you feeling radiant. So, let’s look at transformative power of your best colours versus the impact of the wrong ones:
Wearing the right colours:
- Smoothens away fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles.
- Illuminates your complexion, banishing facial shadows.
- Gives your eyes a vibrant, healthy sparkle.
- Infuses warmth, highlighting your natural cheeky glow.
- Turns back the clock, taking years off your appearance.
- Elevates your confidence, productivity, and mood.
- Most crucially, makes you the focal point—your face shines in the best tints and tones for your complexion.
Wearing the wrong colours:
- Unintentionally ages you, adding years and an ill or tired vibe.
- Highlights fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles effectively.
- Overall complexion can appear discoloured and blotchy.
- Creates unwelcome shadows and emphasises less flattering areas, like around the chin and eyes.
